THE PRACTICE
Liminal Counseling is a private, boutique therapy practice offering depth-oriented individual and couples work rooted in Internal Family Systems (IFS), IFS-informed EMDR, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP). This is not generalist therapy. It is specialized, intensive, and designed for adults who are genuinely curious about their interior world, and ready to do something real with what they find there.

PRIVACY & DISCRETION
Your work here stays here. Liminal Counseling is a private pay practice. We do not bill insurance, which means no diagnosis entered into insurance databases, no claims submitted to third-party payers, and no records accessible through your insurance provider. For those in visible professional or community roles, that distinction matters. Your decision to seek therapy, and everything that unfolds within it, remains entirely private. Our office setting reflects the same commitment. Liminal Counseling maintains a discreet, quiet environment designed with your comfort and confidentiality in mind.

THERAPIST
Shea L. Beris, IMFT-S, LPCC-S
Some therapists work about the interior world. Shea Beris works in it.
With over a decade of clinical experience, Shea brings a rare combination of advanced specialty training, personal experiential depth, and a finely attuned capacity for dual awareness — the ability to track not just what a client is saying, but what is alive in the room between them. She works in the liminal space not as a metaphor but as a clinical practice: attending to the threshold between what is known and what is just becoming possible, between the defended self and the one waiting underneath.
Shea is the founder of Liminal Counseling and owner of Serenity Family and Individual Counseling, a group practice in Wadsworth, Ohio. Liminal Counseling represents a distinct evolution of her work — a small, intentionally selective solo practice for adults ready to engage in depth-oriented therapy without the constraints of insurance, diagnosis, or the surface-level work that so often passes for transformation.
-----
THE APPROACH
Shea’s clinical identity is rooted in Internal Family Systems (IFS) — a model she has pursued not only through formal training but through her own sustained experiential process, including IFS retreats in Sedona, Arizona and Costa Rica. She understands the interior landscape of parts work from the inside, which shapes the quality of presence she brings into every session.
Her work integrates IFS-informed EMDR for trauma processing, IFS-informed couples therapy drawing from the IFIO (Intimacy from the Inside Out) framework, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) for clients navigating treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, or trauma — or those who have plateaued in conventional therapy and are ready to go further. Medical support for KAP is provided in coordination with Journey Clinical.
What runs beneath all of it is an orientation toward the relational field itself — the energy, the unspoken, the material that surfaces not in words but in the space between people. Shea trained her attention toward that threshold long before she had language for it. She has it now.
-----
PERSONAL PRACTICE
Shea maintains an active personal practice and returns to Sedona annually for both structured retreat and solitary reflection. She approaches her own inner life with the same curiosity and rigor she brings to her clinical work, not as performance, but as a genuine commitment to inhabiting the territory she asks her clients to enter.
This matters. The clients who find their way to Liminal Counseling are often people who can tell the difference.
-----
TRAINING & CREDENTIALS
Shea holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Counseling from the University of Akron, completed through a dually accredited program (CACREP and COAMFTE). She is licensed in Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisor designation (LPCC-S), a Licensed Independent Marriage and Family Therapist with Supervisor designation (IMFT-S), and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.
Her specialty training includes:

A NOTE ON FIT
Liminal Counseling maintains a small, carefully selected caseload. The clients who do their most meaningful work here tend to be self-aware, genuinely curious about their inner world, and interested in understanding how they show up — for themselves, in relationship, and in the world. They are ready to move beyond what they already know into something more.
If that resonates, reach out. There may be space for you here.
